Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I am passionate about teaching the whole dancer. My goal is to provide technically sound, safe training with an emphasis on giving developing dancers a standard of excellence in personal expectations for themselves in all aspects of life. I feel strongly that a progressive approach to the development of a dancer's technique is critical to ensuring the safety and longevity of the dancer's body. I seek out continuing education opportunities that align with these beliefs, such as progressing ballet and contemporary technique and acrobatic arts. I work to incorporate the concepts from these experiences into each of my classes. I do this to give my students a wide range of knowledge in each class with a cross curricular viewpoint within their dance training.
While dance is my passion and chosen career path, I recognize that this will not be the path for all of my students. With this in mind, I take into account each of my students' individual goals as I plan my lessons and give corrections during class. While one student needs guidance towards a professional career in dance, another is looking to be on their college dance team, and another is using dance as a creative outlet with the added bonus of bodily movement; it is my hope that all of the needs of these students are addressed in a way that gives them the tools they need to pursue their goals beyond my classroom. I am confident in saying all of my students leave their dance experience with an appreciation for art, a love for movement and how it can serve their body, and confidence to present themselves professionally with grace and dignity wherever they chose to go beyond the studio.
