Artistic Statement

It feels like an oversimplification to use words to describe what place movement and artistry serve in my life. Every aspect of my life is influenced by who I am as an artist, and who I am as an artist is deeply driven by the relationships I carry, the experiences I have had, and pinnacle moments of growth. It is my greatest desire as a pedestrian to bring joy with me into the room wherever I go, to have a sense of humor in how I approach the imperfect moments, and to give abounding grace to those around me. I carry this into my artistry.

I believe that movement has the ability to be so much more than just steps and phrases. I believe that movement can heal what has been hurt, build community, and provide connection. I seek artistic opportunities with these beliefs in mind. I believe strongly in the idea of process over product, and have found that an artistically fulfilling process provides a fuller product that I have a greater appreciation for. I feel that these beliefs are the groundwork for my ethos as a dancer and choreographer, and I return to those beliefs first when making choices in how I conduct or contribute to a rehearsal or performance.
